Brazilian Journal of Music, the oldest academic-scientific journal of music in Brazil and an official publication of the Graduate Program in Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, begins a new phase of its long history from its volume 32 / 2 (2019-2). After ten years as Editor-in-Chief of the publication, Professor Maria Alice Volpe will be succeeded by Professors João Vicente Vidal and Pauxy Gentil-Nunes, Program Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator. Among Professor Volpe’s accomplishments at the head of the magazine is her insertion in the UFRJ Electronic Journal Portal.
According to the proposal approved by the Deliberative Committee of the Graduate Program in Music and the Congregation of the School of Music, the Brazilian Journal of Music will start its activities with the collaboration of guest editors, in dossiers thematically linked to the research groups of the program. Editorial board and peer reviewers will also be restructured, taking into account the needs of the adopted model.
In the evaluation of Qualis Journals for the triennium 2010-2012, the Brazilian Journal of Music received A2 grade, while in the evaluation for the 2013-2016 quadrennium the publication obtained the C grade. In the provisional evaluation of the interstice 2017-2018, the publication received the B1 grade (in a new scale covering levels A1-A4, B1-B4 and C). The Coordination of the Graduate Program in Music of UFRJ wishes, with the new management proposal, a performance in the next evaluations that reposition the publication among the most relevant in the area in the country.
The Graduate Program in Music thanks, therefore, the commitment of the teacher Maria Alice Volpe in its management, as well as the efforts of all the collaborators of the Brazilian Journal of Music in the 2010-2019 period.
