The MusMat research group launched last June 30th a new edition of MusMat – Brazilian Journal of Music and Mathematics (vol. IV, No. 1).
The edition has five articles by important collaborators in the field of music and mathematics: Arthur Kampela (visiting researcher at UNIRIO), Jean-Pierre Briot (Research Director at the Center National de la Recherche Scientifique – CNRS), Liduino Pitombeira (composition professor from EM-UFRJ), Scott Murphy (professor at Kansas University) and independent research Marianthi Bozabalidou.
The MusMat research group was founded in 2013 in the Graduate Program in Music of UFRJ, in order to develop research within the formalization of musical processes (compositional and analytical) using mathematical models. By the present time, the group has the participation of teachers, students, and external members, accumulating an expressive number of publications, artistic and technical productions. The group has also participated in several conferences outside the country and today maintains an intensive dialogue with a national and international community interested in the interaction between music and mathematics.
