Knowledge as power: Samuel Araujo’s conference at the Congress of the International Council for Traditional Music

Knowledge as Power; Engaging Politics and Epistemologies in Music and Sound Research) is the title of the lecture by Professor Samuel Araújo (PPGM-UFRJ) at the Congress of the International Council for Traditional Music, given on July 15, 2019.

The event takes place from 11-17 July 2019 in Bangkok, Thailand, at Chulalongkorn University, and brings together researchers from around the world for academic presentations, music and dance workshops, concerts, exhibitions and excursions.

The researcher addresses at his conference his 20 years of activity in front of the research in music and sound focused on the goals and needs of individuals, groups or institutions that undergo political pressures disqualifying the struggles for socioeconomic changes in a national context of extreme inequality and imbalance of power.

ICTM is a non-governmental organization that has a formal advisory relationship with UNESCO and promotes research, safeguarding, documentation and sustainability of music, dance and performance arts taking into account the diversity of cultural practices and traditions of the present, past and academics around the world.

Samuel Araujo is the leader of the research group Laboratory of Ethnomusicology and promoter of the group Musicultura da Maré.
