The Graduate Program in Music at UFRJ has a new coordination. Elected for the 2019-2021 biennium, Professor João Vicente Vidal holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of São Paulo in association with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
Scholarship holder from agencies such as DAAD, Capes, CNPq and Fondazione Giorgio Cini from Venice, received the “José Maria Neves Award” from the National Association for Research and Graduate Studies in Music and the “Funarte Prize for Critical Music Production”. For his book, German Nepomuceno Formation: Studies on reception and intertextuality, he received the “CONCERTO 2014” Award from Concerto Magazine, obtaining the vote of the public and the jury specialized in the CD / DVD / Book category.
He organized publications such as the volumes Rio de Janeiro-Germany: Musical Relations (2015, with Luiz Barros Montez) and Villa-Lobos: Work, time and reflexes (2016, with Antonio José Augusto and Lúcia Barrenechea), and as an essayist he collaborated with the Symphonic Orchestra of the State of São Paulo and the Society of Artistic Culture of São Paulo.
At the School of Music, he was the Head of the Chamber and Ensemble Music Department (2007-2009, 2010-2012, 2015-2019), Assistant Director of the Artistic and Cultural Sector (2012-2015) and Coordinator of the Research Line “History and Documentation of Brazilian and Ibero-American Music “(2015-2017) of the Graduate Program, in which he develops research on Brazilian music from the 19th and 20th centuries.
As his eventual substitute was elected Professor Pauxy Gentil-Nunes, coordinator of the program in the period 2015-2019.
