The UFRJ Graduate Program in Music and the Polo Caravelas Brazil Research Group invites students, music teachers, interested in music performance research and musicological research, as well as the general public, to the launching recital of CD Morena, Morena !: Brazilian Belle Époque songs (voice and guitar), with tenor Alberto Pacheco (UFRJ) and guitarist Nicolas de Souza Barros (UNIRIO).

The event will take place on September 5 (Thursday), in the Session Room of the Federal Justice Cultural Center (address below, in the services section). In the concert, songs by Chiquinha Gonzaga, Luisa Leonardo, Luciano Gallet, Francisco Braga, all original for voice and piano and with arrangements for Nicolas guitar.

In addition to the selection of 8 songs from the CD, will be presented the modern premiere of the modinha Estas Lágrimas Sentidas (That hurted tears), by Fr. José Maurício Nunes Garcia (result of musicological research by Prof. Alberto Pacheco), as well as the modern debut of Batendo a Linda Plumagem (Beating Beautiful Plumage), by Gabriel F. da Trindade, transcribed by Nicolas for cordophone and voice. These works have the accompaniment of the time of the Italian Bartolomeo Bortolazzi (1772-c. 1846). These are songs that are part of a collection of modinhas stored in a European archive and which remained unknown in Brazil.

Alberto Pacheco. A obra estreada no concerto é também objeto de um artigo publicado na Revista Per Musi, que pode ser acessado no link abaixo.

The concert with modern premieres of 18th century Brazilian songs is linked to the research project The Urban Brazilian Song: Origins and Practices (2017), coordinated by prof. Alberto Pacheco. The work premiered at the concert is also the subject of an article published in Per Musi Magazine, which can be accessed at the link below.
