MUSIC EDUCATION
The object of study is the the relations between music and education, understood as instances of creation of knowledge and as transforming agents of quality of sociocultural and individual life, in any spaces of occurrence of the musical phenomenon, through scientific research and bibliographic production, including dissertation (Master’s Degree Academic) or thesis (Doctorate). Within the area, a single line is currently being developed:
Music, Education and Diversity
Studies in music education aimed at the promotion of diversity and social interaction, understood in a broad sense, and committed to the transformation of the socio-cultural and individual life quality.
MUSICOLOGY
Its object is to study the musical knowledges and practices in its various dimensions and manifestations, with historical, anthropological, sociological, political, theoretical, analytical, critical or interdisciplinary emphasis, allowing the development of the capacity for reflection, discussion and contextualization of music in diverse traditions and cultures, through scientific research and bibliographical production, including dissertation (Master’s Degree Academic) or thesis (Doctorate). Within the area, two lines of research are developed:
Ethnography of Musical Practices
Ethnographic and historical approach to musical making, emphasizing the relations between acoustic practices and the other expressions of human societies.
History and Documentation of Brazilian and Ibero-American Music
Study of Brazilian and Ibero-American music in its historical, sociological, anthropological, political, cultural and analytical-musical aspects, with emphasis on documentary research, construction and historiographic criticism.
CREATIVE PROCESSES
The object of study is the production of musical discourse, based on compositional, interpretative, and performance experiments, on the realization of the musical object in video and audio, on the construction of listening and studies in music technology, providing the development of the capacity for reflection, discussion and contextualization of the original and traditional musical production, as well as its performance and diffusion, through artistic production, research and bibliographical production, including dissertation (Master’s Degree Academic) or thesis (Doctorate). Within the area, two lines of research are developed:
Intepretative Practices and their Reflective Processes
Research of the musical performance and its reflexive processes, focusing on the thought linked to the action, for the construction of the knowledge of the artistic practice and its relations with experiences of a historical, pedagogical and creative nature.
Poetics of Musical Creation
Studies related to the creative processes in music and to the processes of signification of the musical object, aiming the emergence of new models and approaches of knowledge in musical composition and sonology, that combine research and artistic production.
