The Graduate Program in Music of the School of Music of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPGM-UFRJ) was created in 1980 as the first Graduate Course in Music in the country. The program aims to train highly qualified researchers, professors and professionals in the field of Music. The PPGM-UFRJ also aims to promote critical, theoretical and methodological reflection on the field of theory and artistic practice, to foster scientific and artistic production and its dissemination, to encourage practices of cooperation and academic exchange in teaching and research. In the CAPES evaluation for the 2014-2016 quadrennium, the PPGM-UFRJ received grade 4.
