During this period, Bernardo had the opportunity to deeply absorb the principles and techniques of the Hermetian school, and could develop his own voice, a particular approach to the riches bequeathed by the masters.

As an instrumentalist, he performed with important Brazilian music artists such as Hermeto Pascoal, Idriss Boudrioua, Arismar do Espirito Santo, Nenê, Leny Andrade, Dori Caymmi, Joyce Moreno, among others.

Bernardo is part of the Bamboo group, a prominent work in the contemporary Brazilian jazz scene, with which he recorded two albums: Bamboo (2010) and Abertura (2012). In 2016, recorded for the Japanese label Spiral Music the album Gesto, in trio with Joana Queiroz and Rafael Martini.

He also acts as a duo with pianist Rafael Vernet, in Joana Queiroz’s sextet – with which he recorded two albums: Uma maneira de dizer (2012) and Boa noite pra falar com o mar (2016) – in addition to working as a guitarist, producer and arranger in projects such as the recently released album of singer Fernanda Gonzaga, Toda pessoa pode ser Invenção, in honor of his father, Gonzaguinha.

In partnership with Naná Vasconcelos, he composed the musical score of the theatrical show Capitães da Areia (adapted by Vitor Hugo), nominated for the Shell Award in the best music category. Bernardo was the winner of the 2009 edition of the Guarulhos Instrumental Festival.

Acted as music director in the recordings of the albums of the wind sextet Inventos and, in the 2013 edition of the Villa-Lobos Festival, Bernardo acted as guitarist, arranger and music director of the concert in honor of Dori Caymmi’s 70th birthday, at Espaço Tom Jobim, with the participation of Dori, Nana and Danilo Caymmi himself, as well as Joyce Moreno.
